9 Ways How to Judge a Product from Its Cover

I feel many readers would benefit if I explained how to tell if a product is good or not before buying it. It is important to do due diligence before buying any product but in case of “make money online” products there’s either little to no information, the information is misleading or marketing is too compelling to resist.

Here’s what you have to know before buying:

  1. Forget your dreams. Vendors that sell “make money online” products know what they’re doing and they’re good at selling. They may not be good at creating products, far from it, but they know how to sell a dream. If you’re in a state of dreaming when you’re buying, you will be very sorry once you wake up.
  2. Know your tasks and how to accomplish them. Tasks are not goals. A goal can be “make money” or “get traffic”; they are two vague to be of any use when judging a product. Products are created to accomplish or help with tasks, such as “submit articles”, “research keywords”. If you don’t know your tasks, you don’t know what product you need, much less which one to buy.
  3. Be realistic and think rationally. Crazy income numbers, funky stories are there to trigger your emotions. Emotion is not your friend when making rational decisions. If it sounds too good to be true – it is.
  4. Never ever buy from a blind salesletter. A blind salesletter is one which doesn’t tell you anything about the product (sometimes it tells you what the product is not). They work for selling if they have enough emotional triggers and they raise enough curiosity but it’s for the benefit of the vendor, not you.
  5. 1, 2, 3 click software – the latest trend. Do I even need to talk about this? It goes back to point #3 – being realistic and thinking rationally. The only thing you can do with 1 click is close the salespage (though with the abuse of exit popups you need more than a few clicks to do even that – use Opera if you hate those popups and want them be gone).
  6. Google for reviews but keep in mind that this industry is full of less than honest affiliate marketers who will post fake reviews to try to lure you into buying through their affiliate links. If you’re unsure – ask questions. Chances are if it’s a fake review you won’t even get an answer.
  7. Test the support. In most cases support can make or break a product. Too many a product with potential has flopped because of lack of support. Drop them a message, ask a question about the product, see how fast they respond and what quality of their response is. You don’t want to find out there’s no support when you face a problem.
  8. Look for the “Affiliates” link at the bottom of the page. You will see the information for the affiliates which in most cases includes the entire sales funnel with all the upsells. Sometimes vendors make a mistake of pitching the entire package but putting the price tag of the first product in the funnel only. Later you find you need to pay a lot more to get everything. This may affect your buying decision.
  9. If you are completely new to this, I’d suggest you at least familiarize yourself with the terminology and things you need to learn first. Then look for products that specifically teach those things. Never buy a product that says you don’t need any experience and you can get rich by clicking a few buttons. You can’t.

It’s not a foolproof list and a product can flop even if it meets all your requirements and even has good reviews, but if you strictly follow these steps you will avoid 99% of the fluff out there.

If you have any more ways to do due diligence, feel free to share them in the comments.

  2. Yes, you know what you write. I’ve been that situation in my early time when i jump in internet marketing. I found the heaven promise of salespage, and i thought that IM is an honest arena, but it is the darkest site of internet industry i guest. but thank you to clickbank that always back up their product with money back guarantee. I join with, this and this and this, but when i got a trouble the do not even reply my email. There is a product that automated the answer for yahoo questions, i buy it cos the testimony in their salepage, but when i implemented it F*** of, he hack my computer and all of my software that i install get error. so thanks again to write a person content. I don’t know how to say it but you already write with humanity, not just for commission.
